My name is Alethea (Ally) Smith and I have so much to share about how yoga has changed my life. Physically, my yoga practice gave me the flexibility to incur only a ‘minor’ injury of an L1 fracture when hit by a car in December 2007 (the fracture healed really well: knitted, decompressed and straightened lumbar). Thank you, yoga! Emotionally, my yoga practice gives me the strength to build self-confidence and help myself and my family members start healing (my maternal Grandparents are residential school survivors).

I’ve been practicing yoga since August 2007. 5 years of Bikram hot yoga, and then I began exploring other forms of yoga: Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative, Power, Kundalini, Nidra, and Vijnana. I completed my 200hr Yoga Yoga Teacher Training with Karma Teachers and a my Children’s Yoga Teacher Training with Rainbow Kids Yoga.

I am a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) and Children’s Yoga Teacher (CYT) registered with Canadian Yoga Alliance.

I teach with a trauma-informed lens: students will see that I do not use hands-on adjustments; I do not wander the room; in transitions, I invite students to move in a way that works for them; for savasana, I invite students to choose their own expression of relaxation.

I am a French Immersion Elementary school teacher; I started my career in 1999 and over the years I have taught Kindergarten to Grade 7. I have been sharing yoga with my classroom students since 2008 and I have especially noticed the benefits  for children who are coping with anxiety and learning to self-regulate their behaviour.

I can be contacted at aletheayoga@gmail.com and you can also find me on facebook, instagram and twitter.
